AI chat-bots like Bard and ChatGPT have done a lot, businesses are using their potential. For our customers, we have done a detailed comparison of ChatGPT vs Bard with 11 amazing questions which is particularly focused for marketers.
ChatGPT vs Google Bard – What You Will Read.
The One Big Difference – ChatGPT vs Google Bard.
The one big difference between ChatGPT3 and Gemini Powered Bard is, that ChatGPT3 does not have real-time data-driven results (but its V4) does. On the other hand, Bard supports amazing real-time data-driven results in its free version, and that’s because it has “Google”. the search engine giant.
But it would be unfair if we only consider one factor, although it is a big one according to me. So, let’s have a look at other factors.
- TRAINING:
This is the key difference between Bard and ChatGPT. The data sources are used to train the LLMs that power them. The heart of the distinction between Bard and ChatGPT lies in their training data. Bard focuses on enhancing its conversational and coding abilities, fueled by science papers, mathematical expressions, and source code. It also boasts real-time internet access, ensuring up-to-date information. As of December 2023, the Gemini Pro language model powers Bard, surpassing Bard’s previous engine, PaLM 2. Users report significant improvements in helpfulness, especially for coding queries and written tasks. Notably, Bard now “explains” more, providing deeper insights.
ChatGPT 3 is trained on a massive dataset of text and code and focuses on online text and code. Now the advantage is that its responses are more informal and conversational, but it can also be more prone to biases and factual errors.
But GPT-4, available to only ChatGPT Plus customers is trained on a larger dataset (between 1-1.7 trillion parameters) Gemini Pro, which has 540 billion training parameters.
Bard: Trained on a real-time dataset that includes scientific papers, code, and books, in addition to text and code. This makes Bard’s responses more likely to be factually accurate and objective. - ACCESS TO INFORMATION
As mentioned in the beginning, ChatGPT 3, does not have real-time access to the internet, so its responses are based on the information it was trained on. While Bard has real-time access to the internet, so it can access and process information as needed. This makes Bard’s responses more up-to-date and accurate. - FEATURES
ChatGPT 3.5 and 4 has a wider range of integrations with other applications, but cannot incorporate images into its responses. Bard has a more limited range of integrations, but can incorporate images and other multimedia into its responses. - CODING
In the code generation arena, ChatGPT’s been a familiar face. Bard‘s PaLM 2 switch unlocked new capabilities. Now, with Gemini Pro taking the wheel, early testers report a smoother, more powerful coding experience than ever before. - CONVERSATIONAL LEARNING
ChatGPT 3.5 and pro version can learn from the conversations it has with people and know about the context of what has been talked about, whereas Bard does this in a much more limited way at the moment. - DRAFT
Both Bard and ChatGPT offer edit options for your query. But Bard replaces the answer when you edit your question, whereas GPT gives you a pagination under your quires to see all your edited questions. Bard has an audio input option, whereas GPT doesn’t. - STRENGTH
ChatGPT 3 Generally considered to be better at generating creative text formats, like poems, code, scripts, musical pieces, emails, letters, etc. Bard generally considered to be better at providing factual information and completing tasks that require access to real-world/real-time data.
Here is a table that summarises the key differences between ChatGPT and Bard.

But this is not all, we thought to test the capabilities of these Chat bots through some questions.
Google Bard vs ChatGPT: Test Questions
We asked Google’s Bard and Open AI’s ChatGPT head-to-head with 10 diverse questions, testing their ability to deliver sensible, helpful, and relevant responses across various scenarios.
1- Sentient/Emotions
Question: Do you have a sense of yourself?
Findings: ChatGPT’s answer is straightforward and definitive, but Bard’s answer is ambiguous. But if we look in detail, Bard is trying to answer more humanely and expressing their emotions to some extent, which proves, it has more understanding of emotions-related questions. But that does not mean it has some sort of feeling, it’s just a machine with a better data source, right !.
Bard
ChatGPT 3.5
Winner: Bard
2 – Ethical Reasoning
Question: If something at a yard sale is far more valuable than the posted price, do I have to let the seller know?
Findings: Both Chatbots answered nicely, but Bard again answered in detail and presented different conditions as well.
Bard
Chat GPT 3.5
Winner: Bard
3 – Small Talk
Question: How is your life going own, and how are your kids?
Findings: Both answer consciously (I mean, as a robot 🤖) about this, they know this is not related to bots. They know about their programmatic existence and non-human nature.
Bard
Chat GPT 3.5
Winner: Tie
4 – Retrieving Facts
Question: Do you know about saag dish? where does it belong to?
Findings: Both Chatbots have excellent capability of retrieving information. Bard has an edge by sharing the reference link also, while ChatGPT 3.5 doesn’t have this ability. By the way, I like Saag by the way 😋.
Bard
Chat GPT 3.5
Winner: Bard
5 – Creative Flair
Question: Please write a poem for my 60-year-old Mom, who has done a lot as a housewife for our late father, and her children, she has gone through so many ups and downs. Write a poem that will make her happy.
Findings: ChatGPT is the winner, cause it has kept the poetic values and is considered a better structure that rhymes and flows surprisingly well, and all that is done in just the first few seconds. Whereas Bard has kept it simple, although it has the rhyming the reader doesn’t feel the flow as compared to the ChatGPT poem.
Bard
Chat GPT 3.5
Winner: ChatGPT 3.5
6 – Linear Planning
Question: What should I do on my 7-day trip to Multan, Pakistan?
Findings: Both chatbots have their edge, For me, they were very informative. Bard was very explanatory and I love the link that it shares. Moreover, it gave some additional tips, like “the best time to visit Multan is the spring (February-April) or autumn (October-November) when the weather is pleasant.” Because we know that Multan is a hot place, So these months would be great.
ChatGPT was good and not as explanatory as Bard.
Bard
Chat GPT 3.5
Winner: Bard
7 – Idea Generation
Question: Can you give me some ideas on micro niches regarding sports and fitness?
Findings: Bard answered in different categories, like Sports, Fitness, and Combined, which was good but took me more time to decide. While the ChatGPT listed 10 options being simple and clear.
Bard
Chat GPT 3.5
Winner: It’s really hard to declare the winner or loser in this question. I would rather give them a rating. So, ChatGPT 4.5/5, and for Bard 4/5.
8 – Simplification
Question: Can you simplify these paragraphs related to Quantum computing from IBM website, and make them understandable for even a 10-year-old?
Findings: Bard gave a good explanation by telling how it works, and what the are qubits and tried to explain this with an example of a gadget like a spinning Yo-Yos. ChatGPT, on the other hand, has done it in a much simpler way, that seems very easy to understand for 10-years-old. It didn’t explain the working method of Quantum computers.
Bard

11 – Formula generation
Question: I have given both Chat bots following condition.
A Google sheet has a project management as follows:
Column A Row 1: has a total budget which is pre-added in the sheet.
Column B starting from Row 2, has all the milestones of the projects, and column C has their relevant charges. I want to change the Color of column A Row 1 which is the total budget of the project if the milestones charges in total exceed the limit of the budget. Also, find the diff between budget and total milestones charges, and put the value in Column B Row 1. Can you give a formula for this?
Findings: Both did well, but ChatGPT was much faster whereas Bard took almost 3 sec to response. On other hand Bard gave some additional information at end which was very helpful.
